Uniform Standards for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) Personnel

• All MDFR personnel must maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance in uniform.
• Wearing the MDFR uniform off duty is strictly prohibited unless authorized.
• Class A Uniform: Full dress uniform with a coat and hat; formal representation of the department.
• Class B Uniform: Long-sleeve dress uniform without coat or hat; worn for formal occasions.
• Class C Uniform: Short-sleeve dress uniform; designed for warmer conditions while maintaining a professional look.
• Class D Uniform: Work uniform, intended for regular duties; practicality and safety emphasized.
• Department-issued T-shirts must bear department name, badge, rank, and an American flag.
• Honor Guard Uniform: Includes a black jacket, appropriate pants, a dress hat, arm braids, and black patent leather shoes.
• Kantech Access Card: Proximity card for electronic access to MDFR stations; must be present while reporting to work.
• Personnel responsible for keeping uniforms clean, pressed, and in good condition; worn items must be free of damage and fading.
• No modifications or unauthorized accessories allowed on uniforms.
• Supervisors are tasked with ensuring compliance with uniform standards.
• Minimum requirements for Operations personnel include extra uniforms and readiness for dress uniform requests.
• Uniforms and parts must only be worn during official duty or authorized events; no civilian attire combined with uniforms.
• Retired firefighters are permitted to wear Class A uniforms at MDFR functions under strict adherence to standard guidelines.
• Uniforms must be destroyed properly when they are no longer serviceable; all identifying marks must be removed before disposal.

Class A and Class B Uniform Specifications

• Dress Coat: Must be buttoned; includes department patches and rank insignia; wear nameplate and badge.
• Pants/Skirt: Required to be tailored properly; must match the uniform coat and be full-length.
• Shirt: White long-sleeve, tucked in, with nameplate and badge; must wear white V-neck T-shirts underneath.
• Tie/Cross Tie: Must be centered and tied correctly; specific length to match the dress code.
• Dress Hat: Must be worn squarely; free from soil; specific positioning and handling regulations during indoor settings.
• Shoes & Accessories: Only authorized shoes permitted; dress belts must match the rank of the wearer.

Class C and Class D Uniform Details

• Class C Uniform: Similar to Class B but features a short-sleeve shirt; no hats allowed.
• Class D Uniform: Composed of blue BDU pants and polo shirts; required to maintain professional presentation while on duty.
• Uniform polo shirts must be tucked in, and color/design is standardized for rank distinction.

General Guidelines and Maintenance

• Personnel must ensure proper fit and condition of uniforms; tailoring must not restrict duty performance.
• Any issued uniforms are to be managed through the Uniform Allotment Program; excess allotment not carried over yearly.
• Personal attire not showing official MDFR logos is not permitted on duty.
• Department-issued communications devices are the only authorized electronic items on uniforms.
• Unauthorized wearing of department uniforms for personal endorsements is strictly prohibited.
• Uniforms for off-duty events require prior approval from a Division Chief/Manager.### Uniform Standards Overview
• Long-sleeve uniform polo shirts feature station logos embroidered 5 inches below the shoulder seam.
• Approval for logos is required from Assistant Chief/Director per P&P I-G-17.
• Pins, patches, and unauthorized items are prohibited on Class D uniforms.

Safety Footwear Regulations

• Issued or authorized safety shoes and boots must be maintained clean, polished, and in good repair.
• All footwear must be black, with no additional colors, buckles, or ornamentation.

Socks and Belts

• Acceptable sock colors include black, dark blue, dark gray, or white.
• Only department-issued nylon web work belts are authorized.

Job Shirt and Jacket Regulations

• Department-issued job shirts and cold weather jackets are allowed; other outerwear needs Fire Chief approval.
• Job shirts may include approved logos.
• The Department patch can be replaced by an approved company patch on the right sleeve only.

Headwear Guidelines

• Only department-issued baseball and navy-blue knit caps are permitted when protective headgear isn’t required.
• Caps must be free of soil, fading, and unauthorized embellishments, with logos no larger than 2 inches by 2 inches.

Fanny Packs and Accessories

• Fanny packs and personal tool holsters must be navy-blue or black, without graphics except for the department logo.
• Accessories should not interfere with safety equipment or duties.

Prescribed Uniforms for Duty

• Class A uniforms are required for promotional ceremonies, funerals, and other formal events.
• Class B uniforms are designated for external meetings and presentations.
• Class C uniforms are for the Director’s Staff and select personnel as directed by managers.
• Class D uniforms serve as standard work attire for Operations personnel.

T-Shirt and Other Attire Guidelines

• Department-issued T-shirts may replace polo shirts during certain operational activities, but polo shirts must be available for formal settings.
• Shorts are permitted indoors after hours, and casual shoes (like Crocs) must remain within the station.

Special Uniforms

• Air Rescue flight crew members wear an issued Flight Suit while on duty.
• The Urban Search and Rescue Task Force has specific attire for operations, including button-down shirts and appropriate boot requirements.

Ceremonial and Travel Uniforms

• Honor Guard members and higher-ranked personnel may have specialized uniforms, including travel-specific attire authorized by the Fire Chief.
• Maternity uniforms can be tailored for Temporary Restricted Duty personnel.

Insignia and Certification Placement

• Meritorious service ribbons are worn under the badge on Class A uniforms; no more than three ribbons on each bar.
• Certification insignia can be worn above the nameplate on Class B and C uniforms, limited to two at a time.
• Job-related professional organization insignias are allowed on the Class B and C uniforms.

Rank Insignia Table

• Each rank, from Fire Chief to Firefighter, has specified insignia colors and patterns on badges and dress coats.

Enforcement Procedures

• Supervisors must address uniform violations by informing the employee and necessitating immediate corrective action, followed by notifying higher supervisors.
