- He also taught that he would have mercy, and not sacrifice.
Fasting and New Teachings
- The disciples of John asked Jesus why they and the Pharisees fasted often, but Jesus' disciples did not.
- Jesus replied that the children of the bridechamber cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, but they will fast when the bridegroom is taken away.
- He also taught that new cloth should not be patched onto old garments, and new wine should not be put into old bottles, but rather into new ones.
