The Temptation of Jesus

  • Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
  • He fasted for 40 days and 40 nights, and afterwards, he was hungry.
  • The devil tempted him, saying "If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread."
  • Jesus replied, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."

The Devil's Temptations

  • The devil took Jesus to the holy city, set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said "If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down."
  • Jesus replied, "It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."
