The Temptation of Jesus
- Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
- He fasted for 40 days and 40 nights, and afterwards, he was hungry.
- The devil tempted him, saying "If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread."
- Jesus replied, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."
The Devil's Temptations
- The devil took Jesus to the holy city, set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said "If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down."
- Jesus replied, "It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."
- The devil took Jesus to a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory, and said "All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me."
- Jesus replied, "Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."
Jesus' Ministry
- After the devil left, angels came and ministered to Jesus.
- Jesus departed to Galilee when he heard that John was cast into prison.
- He left Nazareth and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim.
- This fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, saying "The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles."
Jesus' Preaching and Ministry
- Jesus began to preach, saying "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
- He saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, and said "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
- Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
- His fame went throughout all Syria, and people brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments.
- He healed those who were possessed with devils, lunatic, and those that had the palsy.
- Great multitudes of people from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judaea, and beyond Jordan followed him.
