Study Notes
Manila ACC Overview
- The Manila Area Control Center (MACC) is responsible for controlling aircraft flying in the airspace of the Manila Flight Information Region (FIR) at high altitudes between airport approaches and departures.
- The MACC uses both radar and ADS-B systems for surveillance.
- The MACC has implemented ADS-C and CPDLC technology.
ADS-C Technology
- Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Contract (ADS-C) relies on aircraft onboard systems to automatically transmit information about the aircraft's position, altitude, speed, navigation intent, and meteorological data to specific Air Traffic Services Units (ATSU).
- ADS-C reports are generated in response to a request within the ADS contract held by the ground system, defining the type of information and conditions for reporting.
- The aircraft can also send unsolicited emergency ADS-C reports to any ATSU with an existing ADS contract.
- Before receiving ADS-C reports, the ATSU must establish ADS contracts with the aircraft.
- There are three types of ADS contracts:
- Periodic contract
- Demand contract
- Event contract
CPDLC Technology
- Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) is a data link system for ATC communications that allows controllers to send non-urgent strategic messages to an aircraft as an alternative to voice communication.
- CPDLC messages are displayed on the flight deck visual display.
- CPDLC provides air-ground data communication for ATC services with a range of data link services (DLS) enabling communication management and clearance/information/request messages aligned with voice phraseology in ATC procedures.
ATS Interfacility Data Communication (AIDC)
- AIDC is a communication protocol used for automatic data transfer between air traffic control centers.
- AIDC automates the transfer of aircraft data to the receiving control center when it enters a new control zone.
- AIDC improves communication efficiency and reduces potential errors compared to manual data transfer.
