M240B Characteristics
- Gas-operated, belt-fed, air-cooled, fully automatic weapon.
- Fires from the open-bolt position and supports optics and equipment through standardized mounting surfaces.
Rates of Fire
- Sustained rate: 100 rounds per minute in bursts of 6 to 9 rounds; barrel change every 10 minutes.
- Rapid rate: 200 rounds per minute in bursts of 10 to 13 rounds; barrel change every 2 minutes.
- Cyclic rate: 650 to 950 rounds per minute in continuous bursts; barrel change every minute.
Ranges and Ammunition
- Maximum range: 3725 meters.
- Maximum effective area (with tripod): 1800 meters.
- Maximum effective range for point target: 800 meters.
- Tracer burnout distance: 900 meters.
- Compatible ammunition types: M80 (Ball), M61 (Armor Piercing), M62 (Tracer), M63 (Dummy), M82 (Blank).
