Light-Medium Transportation Vehicle (LMTV) Guideline
-
This document defines guidelines for deploying and using the LMTV for Spring Fire Department personnel.
-
The LMTV is a versatile vehicle used for various emergency responses, including emergency evacuations.
LMTV Pre-Operation Checks
-
Anytime the LMTV is operated, the vehicle checklist must be completed, and any discrepancies reported to an SFD Emergency Vehicle Technician.
-
Before a "Watch" or "Warning" issued by the National Weather Service, an SFD Emergency Vehicle Technician must inspect and prepare the LMTV.
-
The LMTV must be pre-deployed with a completed Pre-Deployment checklist and delivered to the affected station by an SFD Emergency Vehicle Technician or designee.
LMTV Operators
-
An on-duty District Chief must respond whenever the LMTV is deployed for an emergency response.
-
All SFD personnel must be seated with seatbelts fastened when the LMTV is in use.
-
The SFD attendant in the rear of the vehicle should be seated with all passengers as close to the front of the bed as possible.
-
Operators must be approved and have attended the LMTV lecture/training course and completed the driving/operations course.
-
The second and third crew members should be familiar with the operations but are not required to be approved operators.
-
All personnel must wear a SFD-supplied PFD, SFD-provided rescue helmet, and class "C" uniform (pants preferred) or an approved wet suit when operating the LMTV in water deeper than 6 inches.
LMTV Usage
-
The LMTV should be operated safely and professionally at all times.
-
The preferred use for the LMTV is on improved roads, utilizing the "HWY" mode, which sets tire pressure to 55psi and governs speed to 55mph.
-
For unimproved roads, the vehicle has two additional modes:
-
"X_C" (Cross Country) mode for a combination of terrains, deflates tire pressure to 33psi, and limits speed to 40mph.
-
"Sand" (Soft Terrain) mode for mud, dense vegetation, and unimproved roads, reduces tire pressure to 20psi, and limits speed to 12mph.
-
-
Drivers should ensure the LED in the corner of their chosen mode is fully illuminated and not flashing, indicating the mode is operational.
-
The "HWY" mode should be selected if a different mode was used during an incident.
-
The LMTV has a "Emergency" mode that allows 10 minutes at 5mph with 14psi tire pressure.
-
The vehicle has an amber warning light for CTIS OVER SPEED that illuminates when the operator exceeds the selected mode's speed.
-
Use service drive lights located in an oval switch panel on the right side of the instrument panel.
-
Use utility gloves when deploying the rescue ramp, and utilize additional lighting when the LMTV bed is occupied.
-
The LMTV is not to be used in water rescue incidents deeper than 30 inches (top lip of the tire's metal rim).
-
Turn off the radiator fan before entering water.
-
Re-engage the fan after exiting the water or when the water level is below 10 inches (bottom lip of the tire's metal rim).
-
The LMTV is primarily used for rescuing people, not belongings.
-
After use, the LMTV should be washed, undercarriage rinsed, and debris removed.
-
An SFD Emergency Vehicle Technician should be contacted to initiate proper PM procedures if the vehicle was used in water.
