Preventing Burns/Fires
- Keep hair tied back.
- Always use oven mitts.
- Turned pan handles inward.
- Tilt pot lids away to prevent burns from steam.
- Keep towels and other materials away from heating elements.
- Clear grease and bits of food off the stovetop or out of the oven.
- Treat minor burns by running them under cool water or placing them in a cool water bath for 5-10 minutes.
- Cover lightly with clean gauze.
- Seek medical attention for a severe or infected burn.
- Extinguish fires with a fire extinguisher using the PASS steps: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, Sweep the motion.
- Smother fires with baking soda.
- Never put water on a grease fire.
- Don't Panic!
