Keyboard Basics
- The standard keyboard used in America is called the QWERTY keyboard.
- A keyboard is both hardware and an input device.
- Keyboards are made up of: alphabet keys, arrow keys, number keys, special function keys, a number keypad, and function keys.
- A keyboard built into a computer, used on the screen, is called a touch-screen keyboard.
- There are 12 function keys on a standard keyboard.
- A keyboard with no wires is a wireless keyboard that typically uses Bluetooth connectivity.
- Special keys include: Enter, Spacebar, Delete, Caps Lock, Backspace, Escape, Shift, Tab, Alternate, and Control.
- The Shift key makes a letter capital.
- A shortcut key involves pressing the Ctrl key plus another letter/key, for example Ctrl + X means to cut.
- Ctrl is short for Control.
- The Esc (Escape) key cancels an action.
- Shortcut keys are useful for completing tasks faster.
- The Delete key erases data to the right of the cursor.
- The Backspace key erases data to the left of the cursor.
