Jose Rizal's Early Family and Childhood
- Jose Rizal was born on June 19, 1861, as Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda.
- He was the 7th of 11 children of Francisco Mercado and Teodora Morales Alonso y Quintos.
- Teodora Alonso was Rizal's mother and first teacher, who was a member of the principalia class and came from a wealthy family.
- Francisco Mercado was Rizal's father, a pure Filipino who attended the Latin school in Biñan and the Colegio de San Jose in Manila.
Rizal's Siblings
- Saturnina Rizal was the eldest child and married Manuel Timoteo Hidalgo of Tanauan, Batangas.
- Paciano Rizal was the second child and only brother of Jose Rizal, who studied at San Jose College in Manila and became a farmer and later a general of the Philippine Revolution.
- Narcisa Rizal was the third child, married Antonio Lopez, and was a teacher and musician.
- Olympia Rizal was the fourth child, married Silvestre Ubaldo, and died in 1887 from childbirth.

Paternal Ancestors

Childhood and Early Education
