Adjectives and Adverbs
- Adverbs modify adjectives and verbs.
- Example questions include: "How fast can he run?"
Superlative Adjectives
- Superlative adjectives describe the highest degree of a quality.
- Superlative for short adjectives: am/is/are + the + short adjective-est +
- Superlative for long adjectives: am/is/are + the + most adjective +
Exceptions for Superlatives
- Some adjectives have irregular superlatives.
- Good - best
- Bad - worst
- Far - farthest / furthest
- Old - oldest / eldest
- Many - more
Comparative Adjectives
- Comparative adjectives compare two or more nouns.
- Forming comparatives:
- One-syllable adjectives: add -er to the adjective (tall - taller)
- Exceptions: If the adjective ends in one vowel and one consonant, double the consonant before adding -er (big - bigger).
- Two-syllable adjectives ending in -y: change -y to -ier (happy - happier)
- Other adjectives: Use "more" before the adjective (modern - more modern)
