Types of Interviews
- Puzzle Interview: a type of interview that tests a candidate's ability to think on their feet, approach a difficult situation, and make progress in the face of a challenge.
- Lunch Interview: an informal interview over a meal, used to assess a candidate's personality and behavior outside of a formal office setting.
- Group Interview: a type of interview where multiple candidates are interviewed together, often used for sales roles, internships, or positions where multiple people are being hired.
- Apprentice Interview: an interview where the candidate is asked to complete an actual job task to demonstrate their skills.
- Firing Squad: a type of interview where a candidate is interviewed by multiple people at the same time, often used for positions where the candidate will be working with a team.
- Career Fair Interview: an impromptu interview where a candidate has 10-15 minutes to sell themselves to a recruiter for a chance to come in for a full interview.
Recruitment Process
- The recruitment process begins when a vacancy is identified and ends after the appointment has been made.
- Main stages of recruitment: identify vacancy, prepare job description and person specification, advertise, manage response, short-listing, references, arrange interviews, conduct interview, decision making, convey decision, and appointment action.
Pre-Interview and During Interview
- Pre-interview stages: preparation of recruitment/selection document, advertising, response handling, initial interview, and short-listing.
- During interview: HR interview, technical interview, conducting test, initial final list of candidates, and reference check (if required).
Types of Recruitment
- Internal Recruitment: takes place within the organization, using internal sources such as transfers, promotions, and reemployment of ex-employees.
- Advantages of internal recruitment: increases employee productivity, saves time, money, and efforts.
- Disadvantages of internal recruitment: may refrain from new blood, and not all manpower requirements can be met.
- External Recruitment: solicited from outside the organization, using external sources such as employment agencies, educational institutions, and labor contractors.
- External sources of recruitment: employment at factory level, advertisement, employment exchanges, and recommendations.

- Traditional Interview: a face-to-face interview with a solo interviewer.
- Phone Interview: a first-round screening to see if a candidate is fit to come in for a full interview.
- Skype Interview: a video interview that takes the phone screening interview to the next level.
