Study Notes

Digestive System

  • Breaks down food into nutrients that can be absorbed and utilized by the body
  • Consists of mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine
  • Mechanical and chemical digestion occur in the mouth and stomach, respectively
  • Absorption of nutrients takes place in the small intestine
  • Large intestine responsible for water absorption and waste elimination

Respiratory System

  • Brings oxygen into the body and removes carbon dioxide through breathing
  • Comprises nose, mouth, trachea, bronchi, lungs, and diaphragm
  • Oxygen is absorbed into the bloodstream in the lungs
  • Carbon dioxide is removed from the bloodstream in the lungs
  • Diaphragm contracts and relaxes to facilitate inhalation and exhalation

Cardiovascular System

  • Transports oxygenated blood from the heart to the body and deoxygenated blood from the body to the heart
  • Composed of heart, arteries, veins, and blood vessels
  • Heart pumps blood throughout the body
  • Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart
  • Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart

Test your knowledge of the human body's digestive and respiratory systems, including their functions and components.
