Human Body Systems Overview

• The skeletal system is composed of bones, joints, and cartilage, providing structure and support to the body. Without bones, the body would lack stability.
• Muscles, capable of contracting and relaxing, make up the muscular system and work together with the skeletal system for movement. Tendons connect muscles to bones.
• The nervous system regulates body functions through nerve impulses, divided into the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (nerves throughout the body).
• The respiratory system facilitates breathing, where oxygen is obtained and exchanged for carbon dioxide in the lungs. Blood transports oxygen to cells and removes carbon dioxide.
• The digestive system transforms food into energy through digestion in the mouth, esophagus, stomach, intestines, and absorption of nutrients. Waste is eliminated through the anus.
• The excretory system eliminates waste through urine production by the kidneys, passing through the ureters, bladder, and urethra for excretion.
• The circulatory system transports nutrients and oxygen through the blood to organs and tissues, facilitated by the heart pumping oxygenated blood to the body and returning deoxygenated blood for purification in the lungs.
