Study Notes

Muscle Tissue and System

  • Muscle tissue contracts and moves various parts of the body
  • Muscular system is the body system that covers, shapes, and supports the skeletal tissue

Bones

  • Nasal bones form the bridge of the nose
  • Occipital bone is the hindmost bone of the skull, located below the parietal bones

Nervous System

  • Nerve tissue carries messages to and from the brain and controls and coordinates all bodily functions
  • Nerves are whitish cords made up of bundles of nerve fibers held together by connective tissue, through which impulses are transmitted
  • Neuron is the primary structural unit of the nervous system, consisting of the cell body, nucleus, dendrites, and the axon

Nerves

  • Nasal nerve affects the point and lower sides of the nose
  • Ophthalmic nerve supplies impulses to the skin of the forehead, upper eyelids, and interior portion of the scalp, orbit, eyeball, and nasal passage

Muscles

  • Occipitalis is a muscle that draws the scalp backward
  • Orbicularis oculi muscle is the ring muscle of the eye socket

Other Terms

  • Myology is the study of the structure, function, and diseases of the muscles
  • Nucleus is the dense, active protoplasm found in the center of a cell, important to reproduction and metabolism
  • Occipital artery supplies the scalp and back of the head up to the crown

Muscular System

  • The muscular system is a body system that covers, shapes, and supports skeletal tissue.

Facial Muscles

  • Nasal nerve: affects the point and lower sides of the nose.
  • Orbicularis oculi muscle: a ring muscle located in the eye socket.

This quiz covers the basics of human anatomy and physiology, including muscle tissue and system, bones, and the nervous system.
