• He was born in Aden, Yemen in 1957 to Dhirubhai Ambani and Kokilaben Ambani, and has a younger brother Anil Ambani and two sisters.
• Ambani studied at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai and received a BE degree in chemical engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology before dropping out of an MBA program at Stanford University to join Reliance Industries in 1980.
• He started to help his father run the family business, which had expanded to include refining, petrochemicals, retail, and telecommunications industries.
