Hormones and their Signaling Pathways
-
cAMP System:
- Angiotensin-II (vascular smooth muscle): Activates both cAMP and PLC systems.
- PGE1 (Prostaglandin E1): Activates cAMP.
- Catecholamines (α2, β receptors): Activates cAMP via β receptors and PLC via α2 receptors.
- Vasopressin (V2 receptor): Activates cAMP.
- FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone), LH (Luteinizing Hormone), ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone), TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin), PTH (Parathyroid Hormone), Calcitonin, and Somatostatin: All activate cAMP.
- Secretin and Glucagon: Activate cAMP.
- Muscarinic 2 and 4 receptors: Activate cAMP.
-
PLC (Phospholipase C) System:
- Angiotensin-II (vascular smooth muscle): Activates PLC.
- Catecholamines (α1 receptors): Activates PLC.
- Vasopressin (V1 receptor), Oxytocin, GHRH (Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone), TRH (Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone), GnRH (Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone), and Muscarinic 1, 3, and 5 receptors: All activate PLC.
-
cGMP System:
- ANP (Atrial Natriuretic Peptide): Activates cGMP.
- Gastrointestinal polypeptides: Contribute to trans-cellular cGMP activation.
- Nitric Oxide (NO): Activates intracellular cGMP.
-
Tyrosine Kinase Receptors:
- Insulin, IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1), EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor), PDGF (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor), Macrophage-CSF (Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor), GH (Growth Hormone), Prolactin, and Erythropoietin: All utilize tyrosine kinase receptors for signaling.
