Hoffman Estates Fire Department EMS Supplies and Controlled Substance Security
Purpose
- The purpose is to comply with NWCH EMS Policy C-6 Controlled Substances on EMS Vehicles
Definitions
- Controlled Substance: as defined by NWCH EMS in Policy C-6
Policy
- Hoffman Estates Fire Department (HEFD) adheres to the existing controlled substance policy published by Northwest Community Hospital - Emergency Medical System
Procedure
Vehicle Security
- Front line/in-service and reserve EMS vehicles (Engines, Squads, Towers, and Ambulances):
- EMS controlled substances are secured in the vehicle's designated narcotics vault at all times
- If the cabinet cannot be locked, vehicle doors shall be locked
- Ambulances doors shall be locked at all times when left unattended
Now Arena Security
- Now Arena drug bag:
- Secured in the designated lockable EMS cabinet at Station 24 during times when not in use at the Now Arena
Out of Service Vehicles
- If a department EMS vehicle is taken out of service and not replaced by a reserve vehicle:
- The out of service vehicle's drug bag shall be secured in the station's appropriate designated EMS storage cabinet
Equipment and Drug Inventories
- Completed in accordance with existing schedules outlined in NWCH EMS and HEFD policies/procedures
