These guidelines are for engine companies and fire suppression units involved in interior attacks on buildings with standpipe systems.
The goal is for engine company personnel to function as a single attack team.

Policy

The first engine company is responsible for securing a continuous water supply to the standpipe system through the standpipe siamese or storz connection.
They must attach interior attack lines to the standpipe outlet on the fire floor.
If the standpipe on the fire floor cannot be used, the primary attack line must be communicated.
The second engine company is responsible for connecting a backup line to the standpipe connection on the floor below the primary attack line.
They must also secure a continuous water supply to the standpipe siamese or storz connection for target hazard buildings.

Procedure

First Engine Company

Connect to the exterior standpipe siamese or storz connection and maintain a continuous water supply.
Enter the building with a hand pump or water extinguisher and two 1-3/4" apartment packs (with two personnel).
Connect a 1-3/4" interior attack line to a standpipe outlet on the fire floor and attack the fire.

Second Engine Company

Take over supplying the siamese system if the first engine has only two personnel (no matter the building type).
Connect the exterior standpipe siamese or storz connection and maintain a continuous water supply for target hazard buildings.
Enter the building with two 1-3/4" apartment packs and one 2-1/2" apartment pack (with at least two personnel).
Connect two 1-3/4" (and/or a 2-1/2" line) interior attack lines to the standpipe outlet on the floor below the primary attack line and backup the initial attack companies.
