Station/Apparatus Assignments
- Personnel choose station and apparatus assignments based on Department seniority and qualifications as determined by the Fire Chief, as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Each station has one selected apparatus officer position filled by a Captain during the selection process.
- The selection process ensures each of the four department Captains are assigned to a different station with a Captain assigned to each Engine.
Filling Vacancies
- When a vacancy occurs, the company officer fills the vacancy with existing station personnel to best meet the station and department needs for that day, with the approval of the Shift Commander.
- Detail personnel fill vacancies based on their qualifications and are assigned by the company officer.
- Members normally assigned to a station may assume vacated positions within their chosen station with the approval of the company officer.
Exchange of Duty
- Exchange of duty is position for position, assuming individuals are of equal or greater qualifications, with prior approval of the company officer.
- Without prior approval, the person is assigned as needed.
Hirebacks and Provisional Paramedics
- Hirebacks assume the position assigned by the shift commander or company officer.
- The department includes an overview of the provisional paramedic process for the coming year as part of the annual station and apparatus selection process.
- This information includes the number of provisional paramedics anticipated, the paramedic preceptor selection process, and any changes related to paramedic preceptor station/apparatus assignment.
Temporary Assignments
