Study Notes
- In case of high-rise fires, the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department has specific procedures.
- The IC should check the alarm panel, contact building personnel, and refer to any existing building pre-plan for site-specific information and procedures.
- They should initiate the personnel accountability system and consider setting up a Unified Command Post.
- The IC should perform or direct a 360 assessment of the fire situation, including fire control room location, fire floor identification, conditions above and below the fire floor, standpipe identification, immediate danger areas, and identification of evacuation and attack stairs.
- Personnel should be assigned to ensure the safety and evacuation of building occupants in immediate danger.
- Elevators should be recalled to the lobby for floors above seven stories, while personnel should use stairs for lower floors.
- Additional resources should be called upon confirmation of a working fire: all chiefs, fire inspector, CERT, support services, utilities, and building representatives.
- The first due engine and rescue company should initiate fire attack and conduct search and rescue, ventilation, forcible entry, checking for fire extension, securing power, providing for a secondary means of egress, and salvage operations.
- The second due engine should establish a water supply for firefighting operations and assume Lobby Control and Elevator Control Firefighter.
- The third due Engine Company should establish a Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) and stage one floor below the fire, while the fourth due Engine Company and second due Rescue should establish a backup line and bring all associated tools and equipment.
- The third due Rescue Company should establish a triage/treatment area, and later arriving units should respond to base to await assignments.
- The second arriving Chief Officer should assume Safety Officer responsibilities, including conducting a 360 degree size-up, determining floor layout, confirming RIC placement, securing utilities, ensuring decontamination area is established, and assigning an assistant safety officer as needed.
- All responding personnel should be in full structural firefighting PPE, including SCBA, portable radios, flashlights, and remain with their unit crew until assigned.
- All personnel should have their second personal accountability tags (PAR) prior to entering the lobby command.
- Companies not involved in initial fire attack should report to the base area for assignment.
- Personnel should only use elevators in accordance with existing Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department elevator policy.
- Personnel should gather and have with them all tools and resources reasonably anticipated as necessary to engage in high-rise firefighting operations.
