High Ankle Sprain
Pain Above The Ankle
- Pain located higher up the leg, above the ankle joint
- Typically felt on the outside of the leg, just above the ankle bone
- Can be sharp or aching in nature
- May worsen with activities that involve twisting or rolling of the ankle
Bruising Around The Ankle
- Bruising and swelling may occur around the ankle, especially on the outer aspect
- May take several days to develop after the initial injury
- Can be a sign of a more severe high ankle sprain
Instability When Walking
- Feeling of instability or wobbliness when walking or standing on the affected leg
- May feel like the ankle is going to give way or roll outward
- Can be due to damage to the syndesmosis, which connects the tibia and fibula bones
Difficulty Bearing Weight
- Pain or discomfort when putting weight on the affected leg
- May feel like the ankle is unable to support the body's weight
