Traditional Levels of Health Care
- Preventative health care
- Primary health care: focuses on improved health outcomes for an entire population, requires collaboration among health professionals, health care leaders, and community members.
- Secondary health care: includes hospitals, intensive care, mental health facilities, rural hospitals, and discharge planning.
- Tertiary health care: includes specialized care not available at local hospitals.
- Restorative health care: includes home care, rehabilitation, and extended care facilities.
- Continuing health care: includes nursing centers or facilities, assisted living, respite care, adult day care centers, and palliative and hospice care.
Integrated Health Care Delivery
- Primary and preventive health care services: includes health promotion programs designed to reduce the incidence of disease, and preventive care focused on reducing and controlling risk factors for disease.
Issues in Health Care Delivery for Nurses
- Health care costs and quality: includes patient satisfaction, nursing shortage, and competency.
