Study Notes

  • A case series is a series of reports about the same phenomenon, usually published after the first report about a particular phenomenon has been published.
  • A cross-sectional study is a study in which data on both exposure and outcome are determined at the same time.
  • Exposure rates are calculated in each group, and then these rates are compared.
  • Ideally, exposure should always precede outcome in studies like these.
  • For example, if the researcher is studying the association between uric acid levels and hypertension, and on analysis finds that higher uric acid levels are associated with higher blood pressure levels, this would be a result of a study that is a cross-sectional study.
