Applicability of Safety Management System (SMS)
- Applies to certificate holders under GACAR Parts:
- 119 (air operations)
- 121, 125, or 135 (air operations)
- 139 (aerodrome operations, except heliports)
- 141 (flight training operations)
- 142 and 143 (flight training operations with actual aircraft)
- 145 (repair station operations, in KSA or foreign)
- 151 (ground services)
- 170 (air navigation services)
- 21 (certification procedures for products, parts, and appliances)
General Requirements for SMS
- Each certificate holder must establish and maintain an SMS:
- Appropriate to the size, nature, and complexity of the organization and operations
- Includes at least five components:
- Safety policy
- Safety risk management
- Safety assurance
- Safety promotion
- Sector-specific requirements
- SMS must be maintained in accordance with recordkeeping requirements
- SMS must ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements in GACAR
