Vacuum Drying Chamber
- The main drying chamber where the freeze drying process occurs.
- Includes a sight glass to view the inside, product trays made of SS304, a tray support (also SS304), electric heaters, a type-K thermocouple for measuring temperature of the trays, a seal/O-ring made of Viton, and a vacuum relief valve to increase pressure when needed.
- The sight glass is made of polycarbonate glass and is attached to the front cover of the chamber
Product Trays
- Made of SS304 and designed to hold the products that will be freeze-dried.
- Dimensions of the trays are 500mm x 300mm.
Tray Support
- Located inside the chamber, it is also made of SS304 and is responsible for supporting the trays and heaters.
Type – K Thermocouple
- Measures the heating tray temperatures.
Seal/O - ring
- Ensures airtight seal within the vacuum chamber to prevent leaks.
- Made of Viton material.
Vacuum Relief Valve
- Increases the pressure within the vacuum chamber.
Ice Condensing Chamber Assembly
- Evacuates water vapor from the chamber and converts it into ice.
- Consists of the chamber itself, front and back covers, a sight glass, seal/O-rings, insulation, and drain valves.
Ice Condensing Chamber
- Cylindrical shaped, made of SS304 stainless steel.
- Insulated with foam.
Front and Back Covers
- Dome-shaped, with flanges for attaching the sight glass.
Ice Condensing Chamber Sight Glass
- Located on the front and back cover for viewing the inside of the chamber.
Seal/O – Ring for Ice Condensing Chamber
- Prevents leaks within the ice condensing chamber.
- Made of Viton.
Insulation for Ice Condensing Chamber
- Insulated with foam wrapping around the chamber and covers for maintaining temperature.
Drain Valve for Ice Condensing Chamber
- Drains water from the chamber after use.
Pirani Gauge
- Measures the vacuum pressure inside the chamber.
- Pressure range: 0.05 – 101325 Pa.
Vacuum Pump
- Evacuates air and water vapor from the system.
- Uses VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) to convert 3-phase pump to single phase.
- Type of Pump: Oil Sealed Rotary Vacuum Pump - Pumping Speed: 10 cubic meter per hour - Oil Capacity: 1.0 – 2.5 Liters - Motor Power: 1.5 kW
Important Components of the Vacuum Pump
- Oil Mist Trap: Reduces noise and oil mist exiting the pump
- Gas Ballast Valve: Admits air to prevent liquefication of water vapor within the pump.
Refrigeration System
- Provides refrigeration to the ice condensing chamber.
- Composed of the condensing unit (compressor & condenser), receiver, and pressure gauge.
Condensing Unit
- Composed of the compressor and condenser.
- The Compressor increases the pressure of refrigerant before it enters the condenser.
- The Condenser releases heat.
Receiver
- Stores liquid refrigerant after it leaves the condenser.
Pressure Gauge
- Monitors operating pressure in the evaporator and condenser.
Pipe Connection (Ball Valve)
- Disconnects the flow of vapor in the vacuum chamber from other parts of the system.
Control Panel
- Houses the control circuit elements, switches, and light indicators.
