- Unit Assignment Board a. At the beginning of each shift the oncoming Operational Captain shall be responsible for posting the daily unit and position assignments on the station’s Unit Assignment Board. b. The Unit Assignment Board shall display the: i. Unit Designations ii. Positions iii. Personnel assigned to each position iv. Designated tools and/or responsibilities for each assigned position based upon a structure fire response
c. The Unit Assignment Board should look as follows: i. E-54
- Officer Smith SCBA, Radio, Hand Light, Knox Box Keys
- Driver Jones Pump Operations, Scene Lighting, Equipment
- Firefighter Adams SCBA, Radio, Hand Light, Nozzle Person ii. R-54
- Officer Street SCBA, Radio, Hand Light
- Firefighter Lane SCBA, Radio, Hand Light, Pike Pole
- Firefighter Thomas SCBA, Hand Light, Irons d. The tools and equipment listed on the Unit Assignment Board should be considered the minimum for which each company member should carry. Additional tools and equipment may be needed based on the type and size of the incident and shall be determined, and requested for, by the Company Officer as they deem necessary. e. The Operational Captain shall note the unit designation and personnel in the station logbook and ensure all UIP’s are accurately reflected on the Unit Assignment Board.
- Daily OPS Bulletin a. The Daily Operations Bulletin is prepared by the Dispatch Supervisor on a daily basis. b. The Daily Operations Bulletin shall include: i. REAL FEEL temperature ii. Red Flag Warning or Watch status iii. Pertinent local weather advisories iv. Daily burn status v. Winds vi. Daily dive status vii. Weekly road and bridge closures viii. Open burn permits
- Water Related Incidents: a. Daily Shift Preparations i. Each shift, Company Officer’s shall evaluate the preparedness and ability of their personnel to enter open water, swim freestyle, and stabilize a victim until extraction. ii. Only Fire Rescue personnel fit to swim or dive should be assigned as any swimmer or diver. iii. Position assignments shall be reviewed each shift and posted on the station’s Unit Assignment Board as outlined above. b. Daily Assignment of Level I Basic and Rescue Swimmers i. Level I Basic swimmers or Level I Rescue swimmers should maintain swim attire on their assigned unit for the duration of a shift. ii. At the beginning of every shift, personnel who possess swimming capabilities, will complete a check of open-water rescue equipment to ensure proper condition and operation. c. Daily Assignment of Level II and Level III Dive Teams: i. At the beginning of every shift, personnel assigned with dive responsibilities shall complete a check of dive equipment to be utilized to ensure proper condition and operation. ii. At the beginning of every shift, Level II Dive Team availability shall be communicated to the Dispatch Supervisor. Priority must be given to maintain Level II Dive Team availability through projected staffing. iv. In order to maintain the dive attribute for a Level II or Level III Dive Team, a minimum of three (3) DR1 certified personnel and one (1) Dive Comm-Line Tender shall be assigned. The combination of four (4) personnel may occur between all units in a fire station.
