Authority and Responsibility

Safe Place Policy
- All Fire Rescue stations designated as Safe Place locations for teens in crisis.
- Safe Place sign must be prominently displayed outside each fire station.

Procedures for Assisting Teens
- Operational Captain responsible for maintaining access to Safe Place procedure sheets.
- Teens should be provided with a safe environment until assistance arrives.
- Notify Communications Center when a unit is out of service due to a youth in the station.
- Contact Safe Harbor Runaway Center immediately upon receiving a teen.
Notification and Process
- Safe Harbor Runaway Center to return a call within 15 minutes with the representative’s information.
- A Safe Place representative will arrive at the station within 45 minutes to take the teen.
- Ensure the teen only leaves with an authorized representative.
Special Circumstances Procedures
