      • Mustaches allowed if neatly trimmed, non-bushy, not growing into a beard, adhering to natural lip contour, not touching / interfering with respirator / SCBA mask seal.
    • Fingernails: No more than ¼ inch extending past fingertips to avoid compromising protective gloves.
    • Personal Hygiene: Good personal hygiene expected; colognes / scented products used sparingly.
    • Cosmetics: Discouraged for operations personnel. If used must be natural colors only.

    Jewelry and Body Ornamentation

    • General: No visible or exposed body ornamentation while on duty, in uniform, or representing Fire Rescue.
    • Jewelry: Secured under clothing (necklaces inside shirt). Concealed jewelry should be avoided because of risk of heat collection, electrical conduction, and snagging.
    • Earrings: Not permitted for duty (except female administrative personnel, who may wear post style earrings with ¼ inch diameter or less on a single lobe; no ear plugs, stretched/ringed earlobes).
    • Piercings: Large, obviously visible, or anatomically abnormal piercing holes are prohibited; implants causing abnormal appearances are not permitted.

    Tattoos

    • Restrictions: New tattoos on the head, neck, face, and hands are prohibited.
    • Existing Tattoos: Existing visible tattoos of this nature must be declared prior to policy revision effective date (with written notice).
    • Offensive Tattoos: Visible tattoos depicting sexual conduct, discrimination, intolerance, or advocacy of such are prohibited. Detrimental to good order and discipline are not permitted.

    Dress Code

    • Uniforms: Issued according to CBA and policy; to be laundered, pressed, and in good repair.
    • On Duty, or at Functions: Approved uniform to be worn.
    • Off Duty - Specific Events: (e.g., county training, meetings) requires stricter attire - no shorts, cut-off jeans, flip-flops, tank tops, or clothing with offensive images / slogans.
    • Off Duty - General: Class A, B, C, and D uniforms not to be worn off duty, unless a Fire Rescue sanctioned function.
    • Specific Occasions:
      • Public Education / Safety Inspections / Presentations / Classroom Training: Clean, pressed uniform required.
      • Investigations / Training & Safety Division: Specific uniform allowed according to work needs (jumpsuits, Arson Task Force T-shirts, “undercover”).
      • Fitness Training: Fire Rescue approved T-shirts, Shorts, Sweat suits; appropriate footwear required.

    Other Uniform Considerations

    • Traveling to/from Duty: Wearing is allowed as long as the complete uniform complies with the overall policy and there is no mixing of uniform items with civilian attire.
