- Fire Prevention Bureau (FPB) employees must follow the department's policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Guidelines.
- FPB employees are required to become proficient in conducting fire code inspections and fire investigations.
- FPB employees are required to prepare, review, and submit reports to the Fire Marshal as outlined in the policy.
- Fire Marshal Office staff can work one of three shifts:
- Monday through Friday for eight hours per day.
- Ten-hour shifts starting either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday.
- A 48/96 shift schedule identical to field staff rotation.
- Incoming FPB staff report for work at 7:00 AM for 40-hour work weeks or 9:00 AM for the 48/96 schedule; they must be in uniform.
- Pre-arranged fire safety inspections for 40-hour work week staff must be relayed to division officers before the inspection.
- FPB employees must conduct daily inspections.
- FPB employees must respond to incidents and conduct investigations according to the Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG) for fire cause and determination, and dispatch protocol.
- FPB employees must conduct plan reviews.
- FPB employees must carry proper identification.

- FPB staff must complete continuing training as outlined in the department's training standards and requirements.
- FPB staff are encouraged to attend other trainings to improve their inspection and investigation skills, such as:
