Digestive System
The digestive system transforms everything we eat into nutrients and energy. It's a complex, tube-like network starting at our mouth and ending at the anus. Along the way, food is broken down mechanically, chemically, and enzymatically as it passes through the esophagus, stomach, and small and large intestines. Nutrients are then absorbed into the bloodstream and transported to our cells. The liver and pancreas secrete bile and enzymes that aid digestion, while the gallbladder stores and concentrates bile.
Respiratory System
We inhale and exhale about 20,000 times a day, providing our cells with oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide. The respiratory system consists of the nose, throat, voice box, windpipe (trachea), bronchi, and lungs. The lungs are the primary site of gas exchange, while the diaphragm, a muscular dome, helps us breathe. The efficiency of our respiratory system is critical, as it ensures a constant supply of oxygen and removal of waste products.
Nervous System
