State Level Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA)

  • SEIAA is constituted by the Central Government under section 3 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986
  • Consists of 3 members: a Chairman and two other members
  • Chairman must be experienced in environmental policy or management and fulfil the criteria in Appendix VI
  • Other member must be an expert fulfilling the eligibility criteria in Appendix VI
  • The Member-Secretary is a serving officer of the relevant state government or Union Territory
  • State government/UT to forward names of members and chairman to Central government within 30 days of receiving names
  • Members and chairman have a 3 year term, but Central government may extend up to 12 months
