Engine 705 - Heavy Engine Resource Type
- Effective February 29, 2024, Engine 705 will respond as a "heavy engine" on vehicle entrapment calls.
- Engine 705 will be added to the response package if the assigned Heavy Rescue has an ETA greater than 5 minutes and Engine 705 is closer by at least 1 second.
- The incident commander has the autonomy to decide whether to cancel further responding units based on scene conditions.
- The "heavy engine" response area is shaded in red on the map.
- For entrapment calls south of Station 5, Engine 705 will be the primary rescue resource.
- Units on Kiawah and Seabrook will only carry a combi-tool.
- Engine 705 is equipped with a full complement of cutters, spreaders, and rams.
- Personnel can report response issues, questions, or concerns to the chain of command.
- Assistant Chief of Operations Chris Whaley will monitor responses and gather feedback over the coming weeks.
