Attention to Duty
- Duty to Render Assistance: Personnel must respond to requests for assistance from the public. If needed, they must summon additional aid through the dispatcher.
- Safety: Personnel must use precautions and safety measures to protect themselves, the public, other personnel, and property.
- Duty to Act on Complaints: Personnel must respond to public complaints. Concerns should be addressed at the station level or directed through the chain of command.
- Seeking Advice: Personnel must seek information, direction, or clarification from their supervisor if unsure about assigned tasks.
- Company Training: All personnel must participate in training classes on Department activities, coordinated by the Training Division.
- CPR Certification: Personnel must maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
- Volunteer Firefighter Certifications: Volunteer personnel must maintain a firefighter certification through the State Fireman's and Fire Marshal's Association and strive to obtain higher certifications.
- Employed Firefighter Certifications: Employed firefighters must maintain Basic Structural Firefighter certification or higher from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP). They must also maintain an Emergency Medical Technician or higher from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Territory: Personnel must be familiar with their district's streets, block numbers, hydrant locations, and target hazards. When responding to calls, they are to use the most direct route, considering traffic conditions.
- Acting in Higher Position: Personnel must qualify themselves for the next higher rank through training and observation to assume higher responsibilities when needed.
- In the Absence of Designated Officers: The most senior personnel will act as the officer in emergencies and the absence of any officer. The immediate junior personnel are responsible for performing the duties of the absent officer.
- Driver's License, Vehicle Registration, and Insurance: Personnel must have a valid Texas driver's license and notify their supervisors if their license is suspended or revoked. They must also maintain current vehicle registration and insurance on personally owned vehicles.
- Change in Personal Information: Personnel must immediately notify Human Resources and their supervisor of any change in personal information, including address, phone number, or certification level, and provide a reachable phone number in case of emergency.
- Identification: Personnel must carry a current Spring Fire Department I.D. card. They cannot carry their department badge as identification. When responding to emergencies, personnel must wear department gear, such as bunker gear or dress uniform, for easy identification.
- Reporting Injuries: Personnel must immediately notify their supervisor of any injuries sustained while on duty, no matter how slight. A first report of injury form must be completed and submitted to Human Resources within 24 hours of the incident. A Chief Officer and Human Resources should be contacted if an injury requires hospitalization or higher medical attention.
- Communicable Disease, Drug Use, or Intoxication: Personnel must report any suspicion of a communicable disease, drug use, intoxication, or other unconventional activities to both their supervisor and Human Resources. This includes notifying their supervisor, District Chief, and Human Resources if they believe they may have been exposed to a communicable disease.
- Testifying in Departmental Investigations: Personnel must answer questions relevant to any departmental investigations when directed by a superior officer or supervisor.
- Subpoena, Department-related Business: Personnel subpoenaed to testify on Department-related business must notify their District Chief, appear in dress uniform, and adhere to Department rules.
- Lawsuits, Department-related Business: Personnel facing a lawsuit due to actions performed in the line of duty must notify their District Chief and provide a complete account of the incident.
- Saluting: Personnel must salute the National Colors and the National Anthem with the hand salute while in uniform. When not in uniform, they must stand at attention and remove headgear when the National Colors pass.
