    Study Notes

    Safety Precautions

    • Do not make contact with high voltage components
    • Do not pierce through the hood with tools to gain access, as it may create a severe shock hazard
    • Do not cut orange-colored high voltage cables
    • Assume high voltage cables and components are energized when handling a partially submerged vehicle

    Vehicle Fire Response

    • Treat a vehicle fire connected to a charging station as an energized electrical fire
    • Shut down the charging station before applying water
    • Use multiple hose lines (min. 2 x 65mm hose lines flowing 950 L/min) for extinguishment
    • Position crew and master stream device upwind at a 45-degree angle to the side of the vehicle
    • Secure a dedicated water supply

    Incident Operations

    • Position apparatus uphill and upwind from the incident
    • Identify the vehicle and confirm if it's a LIB event
    • Immobilize the vehicle, chock the wheels, and disable the vehicle
    • Remove the proximity key to a safe distance (15m) and disconnect power (emergency cut loop)

    Overhaul Operations

    • Use a thermal imaging camera when conducting a 360 size-up
    • Treat all conductive surfaces as if they are energized
    • Allow the vehicle to burn itself out in case of a burning high voltage LIB module
    • Apply water to the EV and exposures to mitigate the spread of hazards
    • Access the interior of the vehicle and apply water to the interior
    • Use large quantities of water to manage or control a battery fire

    Additional Notes

    • Consideration should be given to waterways and sewers when applying water
    • Attempt to stop the flow of contaminated runoff into sewers and waterways
    • Contact Canutec (*666) for LIB information and confirm on-site information
    • Contact the vehicle manufacturer as an additional resource of information
