There are five main types of physical oceanography: hydrography, physical property studies, circulation, waves, and tides. Understanding these aspects is vital for maritime navigation, fishing, energy generation from wind, waves or thermal vortices, and coastal protection against erosion and flooding.

Astronomy

Astronomy explores celestial objects beyond the Earth's atmosphere, such as stars, planets, galaxies, black holes, supernovae, quasars, and pulsars. Astronomers make observations with telescopes in all parts of the electromagnetic spectrum and deduce information from those observations by formulating hypotheses and testing them against future data, theoretical predictions, or both. They apply many mathematical procedures to derive further information. Their findings contribute to understanding our place in the universe and answering fundamental questions only possible through astrophysics.
