  • Demurrage charges are levied for delaying railway stock beyond allowed loading/unloading time.

Demurrage Rate Table (8-wheeler)

  • Up to 6 hours: Base rate (₹150)
  • 6 to 12 hours: Base rate + 10%
  • 12 to 24 hours: Base rate + 25%
  • 24 to 48 hours: Base rate + 50%
  • 48 to 72 hours: Twice the base rate
  • Beyond 72 hours: Thrice the base rate

Other Demurrage Rules

  • Applies to all 8-wheeled wagons and coaching vehicles (excluding passenger coaching).
  • Rate for 4-wheeler wagons is half of 8-wheeler.
  • Working hours are typically 0600 to 2200, extendable/adjustable by DRM.
  • Free time is given only during working hours.
  • Double free time is given for time outside normal working hours (2200-0600) (excluding private/assisted sidings and goods sheds using TIELS).
  • All days are considered working days, except if indent is cancelled after supply, in this case no free time is given.
  • Shunting time is deducted during loading/unloading on single or multiple lines If the difference between first and subsequent placement is more than 2 hours, the additional time is treated as non-working time.
  • Wagons grouped together are treated as a single unit.
