What is a concussion?

A brain injury caused by any force to the head or body which interferes with the normal function of the brain.

What are the typical signs and symptoms of a concussion?

a headache, balance problems, dizziness, nausea, feeling “foggy”, visual problems, hearing problems, irritability and/or emotional changes. Physical symptoms include: loss of and/or impaired consciousness poor conduction or balance convulsions gait unsteadiness slow to answer questions, follow directions, easily distracted, emotional disturbance, slurred speech, vomiting, vacant stare

Why is it important to wear proper safety equipment in physical activities?

To reduce the risk of injury and ensure protection.

What are the activities a person with a concussion should avoid?

screen time activities (e.g., watching television, using a computer or tablet, video gaming, texting, using a phone), reading or doing homework, listening to music on headphones, physical activities

How can we protect against UV rays?

cover up with light-coloured, long-sleeved shirts, pants, and a wide-brimmed hat, wear sunglasses that provide protection against UVA and UVB rays, limit time in the sun, use sunscreen with SPF of at least 30

What are the symptoms of anaphylaxis?

skin reactions such as hives, flushed skin, or paleness, suddenly feeling too warm, runny nose and sneezing, swollen tongue or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing, tingling hands, feet, mouth, or scalp

Why is it important to drink plenty of cool liquids, especially water, before feeling thirsty?

To stay cool and hydrated and avoid heat illness; dehydration is dangerous and thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration
