Flashcards

What does the Anterior Interventricular artery supply?

The Anterior Interventricular artery supplies the myocardium of the interventricular septum and the anterior walls of both ventricles.

What does the Circumflex artery supply?

The Circumflex artery supplies the left atrium and the posterior walls of the left ventricle.

What does the Right Marginal artery supply?

The Right Marginal artery supplies the myocardium of the lateral right side of the heart.

Which artery runs toward the left side of the heart and divides into branches?

The Anterior Interventricular artery runs toward the left side of the heart and divides into two major branches.

Study Notes

Coronary Arteries

  • The left and right coronary arteries originate from the base of the aorta and encircle the heart in the coronary sulcus.
  • They provide the arterial supply of the coronary circulation.

Left Coronary Artery

  • Runs toward the left side of the heart and divides into two major branches.
  • Anterior interventricular artery (also known as the left anterior descending artery):
    • Follows the anterior interventricular sulcus.
    • Supplies blood to the interventricular septum and anterior walls of both ventricles.
  • Circumflex artery:
    • Supplies the left atrium and posterior walls of the left ventricle.

Right Coronary Artery

  • Courses to the right side of the heart and gives rise to two branches.
  • Right marginal artery:
    • Serves the myocardium of the lateral right side of the heart.
  • Posterior interventricular artery:
    • Runs to the heart apex and supplies the posterior ventricular walls.
    • Merges (anastomoses) with the anterior interventricular artery near the heart apex.
