Children under 12 and under 135cm tall must use booster seats or cushions in passenger vehicles, with restrictions on front-seat usage.

The driver is responsible for the correct fitting of booster seats/cushions before a pupil's journey begins.

Drivers must remove booster seats/cushions from the vehicle upon arrival and take them into school for storage.

Drivers of minibuses without power doors must open and close the entrance door for passengers, preventing them from doing it themselves.

This rule exists to prevent accidents where students could be dragged by the vehicle if their clothing gets caught in the door.

Drivers are responsible for ensuring all passengers can safely board and leave the minibus, especially when manual doors are present.

Passengers must not open or close the minibus entrance door themselves, even if it's a manual door.

Contract requirements should clearly state the rule about drivers opening and closing the minibus door for all passengers.

Maintain a polite and respectful distance with passengers. You can be friendly, but not their friend.

Never give gifts or take passengers for treats. This includes things like sweets, chocolates, or fast food.

Be mindful of personal space when helping passengers, like with seatbelts. Explain your actions before physically assisting them.

Never refuse to carry a child or vulnerable adult unless instructed by Lancashire County Council.

Do not give or take personal details from passengers, like mobile phone numbers or addresses.

Do not communicate with passengers through social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter.

Do not meet with passengers outside your working environment.

You must not photograph or video record pupils, students, or vulnerable adults. This includes taking photos on your phone. The only exception is in-vehicle CCTV if you adhere to legislation.

Before leaving, the driver must check to ensure no passengers, their belongings, or any equipment is left on the vehicle. This is like a final safety check.
