Study Notes
Consolidation Chart of Accounts (COA)
- A consolidation COA systematically groups financial statement (FS) items for group reporting.
- Local COAs use general ledger (G/L) accounts with varying detail levels.
- Group reporting needs a uniform aggregation of operational data across the group, requiring at least one consolidation COA.
- The predefined COA is Y1; custom IDs aren't supported.
- If Y1 doesn't suffice, modify FS items within Y1 (refer to SAP Note 2659656).
Financial Statement Items (FS Items)
- FS Items represent accounts in group reporting.
- FS Items are tied to the consolidation COA.
- Pre-defined FS items exist in SAP S/4HANA Finance.
- Each FS Item maps to one or more G/L accounts, enabling consolidation data collection, posting, and reporting.
- FS Items appear in balance sheets, profit & loss (P&L) statements, statements of retained earnings, and metrics/key figures.
- FS Items update via file upload or the Define FS Items app.
- Multiple hierarchies can be created for FS Items.
- G/L account mappings for FS Items update through file uploads.
FS Item Attributes
- FS Items have three attribute types: Basic Data, Selection Attributes, and Target Attributes.
Basic Data Attributes
- FS Item Type: Required; indicates FS item nature (e.g., income, expense, asset, liability/equity, statistical, reporting).
- INC: Income items (P&L)
- EXP: Expense items (P&L)
- AST: Asset items (Balance Sheet)
- LEQ: Liability/equity items (Balance Sheet)
- STAT: Statistical items (record financial/non-financial data—not directly in P&L/BS)
- REPT: Reporting items (reporting characteristics, define report row/column structure; requires defined reporting rules for calculations)
- Is Consolidation Item: "YES" for consolidation-specific items (e.g., goodwill); these don't require G/L mappings.
- Blocked for Posting: Used to prevent postings.
- Breakdown Category: Determines which subassignments are recorded in the ACDOCU table for each FS item.
Selection Attributes
- Used in consolidation tasks to automatically select related FS Items based on attribute values.
Target Attributes
- Used to derive one FS Item based on another.
- Commonly used for automatic offset postings in reclassification rules (e.g., Elimination Target).
- The system identifies the target FS Item automatically based on master data, simplifying reclassification rule setup.
FS Item Attributes: Purpose and Assignment Relation
- FS Item Role is a selection attribute used for calculations (annual net income, deferred tax, retained earnings, etc.).
- Each FS Item can have only one role in a given fiscal year, period, and consolidation version.
