South American rainforest is one of the most diverse ecosystems, home to over half of the world's wildlife.
Crucial for medicines and maintaining the oxygen and carbon dioxide balance essential for survival.
Conservationists like David Attenborough, Jane Goodall, and Greta Thunberg work with organizations like WWF to advocate for rainforest preservation.

Human activity is the primary threat, particularly deforestation driven by agriculture.
Farmers clear vast areas for fertile soil, leading to monoculture practices such as sugar palm and cattle ranching.
Destruction of nesting sites and food webs contributes to decreased biodiversity in the region.
Hydro-electric developments further degrade habitats, endangering native species.
Trapping of exotic animals for fur and pets contributes to declining wildlife populations and increased listings on the Endangered Species List.

Over one-third of all parrot species, including the Spix Macaw, are endangered and face extinction.
The Spix Macaw was declared extinct in the wild as of October 2020, mainly due to habitat destruction and difficulty in breeding.
Approximately 160 individuals exist, primarily in captivity, due to dietary needs that are hard to replicate outside their natural environment.
Only 10% of Spix Macaw eggs successfully hatch, and survival rates for young birds are low.

Located in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, this project collaborates with local farmers to maintain habitats by preserving nesting trees and planting new saplings.
Farmers are encouraged to prevent illegal trapping of Macaws for commercial purposes.
Successful breeding programs allow for the release of Macaws back into their protected habitats, promoting population recovery.

Immediate action is necessary to prevent further damage to rainforests, which support diverse life forms and the planet’s ecological balance.
Future efforts should focus on protecting both habitats and endangered species through broader conservation initiatives.
