Study Notes

Conduct of Courses

  • Recognition of a Course and Authorisation of the Leader of the Course requires proper certificates, which must be displayed on the notice board in camp during the course days.
  • The proposed Leader of the course must apply for recognition and authorisation on the proper form to the STC(S) or Dy.Director (Scouts) Ldr.Trg., at least one month before the course commencement.
  • The District level executive takes the initiative in case of Basic Course.

Course Strength

  • Minimum and maximum number of candidates allowed: 12 and 32, respectively.
  • This condition can be relaxed up to 25% on either side in exceptional conditions by the leader of the course, provided registration has been done as above.
  • Staffing requirements for 32 participants:
    • LOC: 1
    • Trainers: 2
    • Counsellors: 4
    • Quarter Master: 1

Staff and Course Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 staff members are required for the minimum number of trainees.
  • The staff ratio is maintained based on the strength of candidates registered.

Course Administration

  • Courses should be conducted under appropriate camping conditions, preferably in established training centers.
  • The Leader of the Course and helpers should reside in the course continuously.
  • Special courses can be conducted on a non-residential basis under unavoidable circumstances.

Attendance and Leave

  • Late coming to attend courses should be discouraged.
  • Short attendance of not more than six hours after the commencement of the course may be allowed at the discretion of the Leader of the Course.
  • No leave is permitted during the course.
  • Failure to attend training for more than 12 hours on a course due to illness will disqualify a person for the certificate.

Training Materials

  • The National Training Handbooks should be followed.
  • Handouts should be made available to candidates in English or regional language after getting them translated.

Certification

  • Certificates shall be issued to all participants who are successful.
  • The decision of the Leader of the Course is final in this respect.
  • Certificate details (name, address, certificate number, date, and place) should be entered in the Training register of SHQ/State Training Centre/NTC.

Training Course Records

  • A register of trainees should be maintained, including:
    • Name and address
    • Date of birth and age
    • Scout Rank
    • Warrant no. and Date
    • Scout experience and service as Cub, Scout, and Rover and as Scouter
    • Education
    • Profession
    • Certificate No. and Date
  • Records of work done on the course day by day, including instructions, activities, and names of staff responsible.
  • Notes of morning inspection, including smartness, turn out, orderliness, and cleanliness of camping area, kitchen, and latrines.
  • Report on health of campers made day to day by a member of the staff.
  • Notes of observation of trainees, including progress, achievements, and development.
  • Spare time activity, assignments, and records of progress made by campers.
  • Record of hikes and other outdoor projects.
  • Sketch map of camp showing layout and disposition of tents.
  • Statement of Accounts, including receipts and expenditure.
  • Special events, if any.
  • Visitors.
