BIOS and UEFI
- BIOS program manages data flow between the OS and devices, allowing the OS and application programs to be unaware of peripheral details (such as hardware addresses)
- UEFI performs a similar task, but stores initialization and startup information in an
.efi
file instead of firmware
Spanned Volume
- A spanned volume is created by linking together free disk space from multiple disks (up to a maximum of 32 disks)
Accessing BIOS Settings
- To access BIOS settings, press the corresponding key during boot-up:
- ASRock: F2 or DEL
- ASUS: F2 (all PCs), F2 or DEL (Motherboards)
- Acer: F2 or DEL
- Dell: F2 or F12
- ECS: DEL
- Gigabyte / Aorus: F2 or DEL
- HP: ESC, F10
- Lenovo (Consumer Laptops): F2 or Fn + F2
- Lenovo (Desktops): F1
- Lenovo (ThinkPads): Enter then F1
- Tip: Press the key about twice a second when the computer is starting up to ensure access to BIOS settings
