- Combined Defence Services (CDS) Exam I, 2018, includes an English II paper.
- The duration of the exam is 2 hours.
- The maximum marks for the exam are 100.
- The test booklet contains 120 questions, each with four answer choices.
- Candidates must select the best answer and mark it on the separate Answer Sheet provided.
- Only one choice should be marked per question.
- All questions carry equal marks.
- There will be a penalty for wrong answers in the objective-type questions.
- For each wrong answer to a question, one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.
- Giving multiple answers to a question results in it being treated as a wrong answer, with the same penalty applied.
- There is no penalty for leaving a question blank.

Comprehension Passages
- The paper includes short passages which will each have items to answer questions based on each passage
- Questions must be answered based on the passage's content and opinion of the author only

Ordering of Sentences
- Each item will have a sentence that has been jumbled
- Labelled P, Q, R and S
- Each item is structured with six sentences in a passage, where S1 and S6 are given, and P, Q, R, and S are jumbled.
- Reordering the sentences is required.
Antonyms
- Each item contains a sentence with an underlined word/words.
- Select the option opposite in meaning.
- Ideas are obscure; opposite of obscure is clear.
- Ravi is jovial; opposite of jovial is pessimistic.
- A woebegone feeling prevailed is; opposite of woebegone is cheerful.
- The group is mutinous; opposite of mutinous is obedient.

Reported Speech
- This section tests the knowledge of using statements in direct and indirect forms.
