    The Four Sights

    • One day, Buddha ventured out into the town and saw:
      • An old man, which made him realize people age and become weak.
      • A sick man, which introduced him to the concept of illness.
      • A funeral procession, which taught him about death.

    Leaving the Palace

    • Buddha was shaken by what he saw and decided to leave the palace to find answers about life and suffering.

    Path to Enlightenment

    • For one year, Buddha meditated with two elderly gurus but didn't find enlightenment.
    • For the next three years, he resisted temptations with other men, adopting extreme self-discipline practices.
