Study Notes
Burner Management System (BMS) Logic
- Plant specific administrative and/or safety policies and procedures take precedence if in conflict with this document.
System Functions
- Ensure a furnace purge cycle is completed before firing any fuel.
- Prevent start-up of individual fuel firing equipment unless permissive interlocks are satisfied.
- Monitor and control the proper component sequence during start-up and shutdown of fuel firing equipment.
- Ensure safety interlocks remain satisfied during operation of fuel firing equipment.
- Provide component status feedback to the Operator and the unit control system.
- Initiate a fuel trip when abnormal operating conditions exist.
Ignitor Gas Leak Test
- Activated by the "Test Start" push button.
- Consists of two 60-second phases:
- Phase 1: Test corner trip valves and riser vent valves for leakage.
- Phase 2: Test header trip valve for leakage.
Ignitor Gas Header Trip Valve
- Automatically closes if:
- Ignitor gas header pressure is low or high.
- No master fuel trip signal exists.
- No close command for the Ignitor Gas Header Trip Valve exists.
- Nozzle tilts are not horizontal or airflow is ≥ 40% or any fuel elevation is in service.
System Pressurization
- Enables the leak test by pressurizing the ignitor gas piping downstream of the header trip valve.
- Involves closing all ignitor gas riser vent valves and sending an "open command" to the Ignitor Gas Control Valve.
Miscellaneous
- All parts of the BMS must be in operable condition and in service at all times.
- Recognize that abnormal operating scenarios may be encountered during unit operation.
