Performance Evaluation Checklist - Basic Life Support/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
-
Assessment Criteria:
- Tap and shout "Are you alright?"
- Check for pulse (carotid for adults/children, brachial for infants) and breathing (scanning chest for movement 5-10 seconds).
- Call for help and activate emergency response system, including AED.
-
Performance (CAB Sequence):
- Circulation (If no pulse within 10 seconds, start CPR (30:2)):
- Compression rate: 120 beats per minute
- Compression depth:
- Adults/Children: 2 inches
- Infants: 1.5 inches
- Allow complete recoil between compressions
- Switch providers every 2 minutes
- Limit interruptions to <10 seconds
- Airway:
- Head Tilt-Chin Lift Maneuver
- Breathing:
- Chest rise observation with mask
- Bag mask (5-6 seconds)
- Advance airway support (1 breath every 6-8 seconds).
- If pulse present, rescue breathing every 5-6 seconds (10-12 breaths per minute).
- Circulation (If no pulse within 10 seconds, start CPR (30:2)):
-
Defibrillation:
- Check for shockable rhythm with AED.
- Deliver shocks as indicated.
- Follow shocks with CPR (beginning with compressions).
