- Allogeneic donor:

- Autologous donor:
- Safest type of donor
- Patient is the donor
- Hemapheresis donor:
- Donates blood through apheresis
- Directed donor:
- Donates blood to an identified individual
- Not recommended
- Recipient-specific "designated" donations:
- Voluntary non-remunerated blood donor (VNRBD)
Donation Process
Donor Registration
- Date and time of donation

Interview and Physical Exam
- General appearance:
- Appears to be in good health
- Defer donation if donor looks ill or is excessively nervous
- Age:
- 18-65 years old
- 16-17 years old: with parent's consent
- >65 years old: with physician's consent
- Body weight:
- ≥110 lbs or ≥50 kilograms
- Maximum amount of blood to be drawn: 10.5mL/kg
