- For example, an individual’s behaviour might be categorised as ‘bold’ or ‘shy’, according to whether its behaviour is explorative or not
- This is important because it can shape the evolutionary trajectory of a particular species
Intraspecific Variation
- Empirical approaches that enable tests of intralocus and interlocus conflict, include controlled experiments and observational studies
- These can be used to investigate how different behaviours contribute to the survival and reproductive success of individuals
Evolutionary Conflict
- Evolutionary conflict can occur when different selective pressures act on different traits to promote the fitness of either the male or female parent, which can result in a ‘tug-of-war’, where the opposing forces are not always in agreement
