Flashcards
Automatic Boom Barriers
Automatic Boom Barriers
Automatic barrier systems that use a motor to raise and lower a boom barrier to block traffic. These barriers are often used in parking garages, toll booths, and other controlled access points.
Barrier without Hand Generator
Barrier without Hand Generator
A type of automatic boom barrier that operates solely on electricity, typically 110V AC or 24V/110V DC.
Barrier with Hand Generator
Barrier with Hand Generator
A type of automatic boom barrier that is powered by an internal hand generator, providing an alternative power source in case of power outages.

Study Notes
Types and Operation
- Two barrier types are available: one without a hand generator (110V AC or 24V/110V DC), and one with a hand generator (24V/110V DC).
- Operating sequence begins with opening detection contacts and unlocking the boom. Then, the boom moves, and finally, the boom locks in position and closes the detection contacts.
- Open position: 85-90 degrees from horizontal.
- Closed position: 0-2 degrees from horizontal.
- Operation time is less than 12 seconds at rated voltage, but can be up to 20 seconds at 75% rated voltage.
Technical Specifications
Boom Construction
- Boom is made of galvanized iron sheet in an octagonal shape.
- Available in 4 sections, each 2.44 meters long, with total lengths of 4.88m, 7.32m, or 9.76m.
- Sections are painted with alternating 300mm black and yellow bands.
- A red disc (600mm diameter) with a STOP sign is featured.
- Includes an LED boom light with a built-in fuse in the center.
Motor Specifications
- Class B insulation.
- Short-time 10-minute rating.
- Rotation in both directions.
- Overload protection using special MCBs.
- Varying operating current based on type:
- AC (110V): 2.5A normal, 4A maximum
- DC (24V): 4A normal, 7A maximum
- DC (110V): 1A normal, 1.8A maximum
Safety Features
- Fail-safe locking in both vertical and horizontal positions.
- Fracture segment for protection against impacts.
- Snubbing device for gradual boom movement.
- Emergency operation capability.
- Protection against unauthorized access.
- Positive boom locking.
Control and Monitoring
- Control panel includes power indication; open/close push buttons; emergency operation button; boom position indicators; and lock status indicators.
- Hand generator version includes a generator/push button selector switch and integrated control panel option.
Testing Requirements
Types of Tests
- Routine tests include visual inspection, high-voltage test, and insulation resistance test.
- Performance tests are also conducted.
- Acceptance tests follow the same routine as routine tests, utilizing a sampling plan.
- Type tests are also part of the testing requirements.
Warranty and Documentation
- 24 months warranty from supply, or 12 months from commissioning.
- Installation and maintenance manual provided.
- Tool kit included.
- Optional spare parts available.
Installation Requirements
- Road clearance is 0.8 to 1 meter.
- Weatherproof construction is required.
- Proper lubrication points should be maintained.
- Adequate cable protection is crucial.
- Secure locking mechanisms are essential.
Environmental Testing
- Life testing (100,000 cycles) and additional performance parameters are included in environmental testing.
